Athens: Cradle of Both Democracy and My Trip

Most of the things I heard about Athens were not positive. People had me convinced that the Acropolis 🏛️ was the only thing worth seeing in Athens and that the city did not merit more than a day and a half. WRONG! Thank goodness my itinerary on this trip is so flexible, because I ended up staying almost five full days.

I can't believe how fortunate I was in selecting this location! It's also always wise⎯no matter how exhausted or frustrated you may be upon arrival⎯to be nice to the host or front desk person. It pays to be kind and costs you absolutely nothing.

They Say It’s Your Birthday

As if taking off on a year-long trip wouldn’t be a whirlwind enough on any old day of the year, I’ve chosen to begin this journey on my birthday. Attempting to field calls from family and close friends—or at least to fire off responsive “thank you” texts to well-wishers—I wonder what I was thinking when I decided to have these two events converge.
